San Gabriel Springs’ model is based on the concept of continuity.  We believe that continuity is the best way for people to achieve successful self-sufficiency.  Too often, individuals with barriers are left to rely on a system that is fragmented and frustrating.  We don’t just offer classroom training and job search assistance, we add all aspects of daily living to the program, including financial assistance.

  • Life Skills and pre-Employment Transition Services:    Education and self-sufficiency are the cornerstones of what we do.  By partnering with the Texas Workforce Commission and other organizations throughout central Texas and beyond, we provide life skills and vocational training as well as assistance with securing stable, long-term employment.  The five facets we address are:
  • Career exploration
  • Counseling on post-secondary training opportunities
  • Work readiness training (including social skills)
  • Self-advocacy training
  • Work-based learning (including internships)
  • Skills for Independence:  We also offer job search assistance and job placement, including vocational adjustment and social adjustment training.
  • Supported Employment:  For individuals with specifically challenging barriers to employment, we offer supported employment and job coaching services.
  • Circle of Support:  San Gabriel Springs also provides material and financial support on an as-needed basis for expenses that young adults may not be able to manage on their own (books for post-secondary activities, apartment deposits, clothes, car maintenance etc.)  A few recent examples of Circle of Support help:
  • When a 17 year old needed transportation for work and school, we arranged for the donation of a vehicle and funded the car repairs
  • When a 24 year old man was given custody of his two little sisters by CPS, we were able to get them the technology to access the internet from home so they could catch up on their school work.
  • When a teen mom was falling behind on bills, we purchased clothing, diapers, and other baby supplies
  • We purchased a telephone and paid for service so that a job-seeking teenager could take phone calls from potential employers
  • When a teen was falling behind in her school work due to frequent moves, we were able to provide tutoring and academic guidance to help her get caught up and graduate on time
  • Early Childhood Education and Parent Coaching:   With the establishment of a trauma-informed care facility, we can provide children with a loving environment while teaching young parents critical parenting skills to successfully raise healthy and vibrant children.
